CCH Road Show Reaches Out

To rapt audience attention, the CCH Road Show has reached out over the past 2 years to disadvantaged Cambodian children and adults in poor villages, at special holiday festivals, in juvenile detention homes, and at the local garbage dump. The emphasis is always the same: Be aware of the dangers of human trafficking, HIV/AIDs, domestic abuse and substance abuse; but also be aware of life's great possibilities, opened up through reading, art, drama, and enjoying one another's company. For instance, in recent shows this November....

No, this boy is not prematurely aging at Center for Children's Happiness. He is in a play about human trafficking. If you can't tell, he is one of the good guys.

The traffickers are brought to justice...

Ahh..satisfaction in a job well done....

The audience takes it all in.

After the show, CCH staff member Pho Phanet invites children in the audience up on stage to tell what the thought of the play

After the play, one of the older CCH girls reads aloud to village children...

and brings storytelling to life.

Meanwhile, other CCH youth supervise art and reading circles.

Schooling at CCH

The Road shows happen only on weekends or holidays. During the week, CCH children are busy studying....

Quick, can you define "binary fission" and "endospore"?

"I don't know, do you?" "Uh, uh. What are we gonna do?"

"Let's put all the words on charts."

"So....... Everybody got that now?"

Special Music Gift

In November, Mr. Kasaharo Hiseo, from Japan, made a remarkable gift to CCH...these beautiful traditional Cambodian musical instruments:

OK, the kids are actually faking it. They can't really play, but who knows in the future?

CCH Birthday Party

Center for Children's Happiness first opened its doors in November 2002. This year, we celebrate six full years of successful and growing operations!

More Photos of the Visit with the King

Last month, we told the story of the visit of 10 CCH photographers with the King of Cambodia. Since then, we have received these remarkable photographs, which we now share.

His Royal Highness greets CCH students

CCH Director Mech Sokha receives a certificate of commendation from the King.

Reception at the Royal Palace. Sokha and wife Dany at right. MIchelle Harrison-James and Brian Gray, photography instructors, at left.

How remarkable....

And finally......

Maybe it doesn't look like much, but actually it is. These are shots of the foundations being laid for the new Youth House right next to the CCH 2 facility. On January 1st, CCH will have a ground breaking ceremony to celebrate this "new beginning," where maturing CCH youth will receive guidance in transitioning to adulthood, and will receive a partially subsidized place to live, up through age 23.

Behind is CCH 2, then a small road, and then the new concrete footings for the Youth House. You can see the rebar in the concrete.

And beyond this, more land we are trying very, very hard to find money to buy, to build CCH 3 , to replace the old CDCC facility which we will lose some day, because CDCC is only leased, not owned, by CCH.

Happy Holidays!!!!!!
