.. ........CCH 3 Land (CCH 2 in the background)

Laying Groundwork for a Bright Future

It is only a vacant lot right now, but it all belongs to CCH! This is a fact of very great importance to the orphanage as it looks toward a sustainable future. Thanks to a joint effort of many international donors, CCH now has enough land to eventually build a CCH 3 facility to replace CDCC, which is only leased and not owned. A Youth House for 18-23 year olds is currently under construction.

These land purchases have saved CCH from a potentially painful crisis in the future, as rents will inevitably grow too high in Phnom Penh, and the CDCC facility will one day be sold.

There is no rush to build the CCH 3 facility, because we do not face having to leave CDCC any time soon. But within the next 5 years, and maybe sooner, CCH 3 will be built on the land we have acquired over the past year and a half. There WAS a rush to buy land, as land prices in Phnom Penh are extremely volitile, and appear to be spiraling up, out of sight.

Special thanks is due to many international donors who helped buy the CCH 3 and Youth House lands, including Eli Svanhild Riska Thorsen group of Norway, Canodia Fund of Canada, De Stortkinderen VZW of Belgium, and Happy Hearts Fund, 100 Friends Project, and Friends of CCH of the United States.

Below is a schematic drawing of all the land we have recently acquired. "A" is the Youth House land (currently under construction), "B" is the CCH 2 facility (already in use), and C,D,E,F & G all comprise the CCH 3 land. Dimensions are only approximate.

Play Time

The typical day for a child at CCH is rather scheduled---school, tutoring, chores, outside scheduled activities, Road Show, library.....but that does not mean there is no time to play, and there are no children in the world better at playing than Cambodian kids!

Photo Journalists Increase Their Skills

The CCH Photo Journalists---a pilot program to create many photographers and reporters from among CCH youth, continues to develop successfully. The current group--Ravuth, Sambath, Piset, Theara and Sokunthea, continue to take amazingly good photos, as you can see below. They also had some effective training in Adobe Photoshop in July from Gabe, an American volunteer. See for yourself.
